Whether you are a huge lover of modern bands or you are still stuck in the 90s era, music plays a very big part in a wedding. When you think of music being played at a wedding, your first thought might very well be the tracks played by the DJ as the evening celebrations unfold, however, music is also present throughout the ceremony and into the wedding breakfast.

Here, we take a look at some of the best songs for the all-important walk down the aisle. As this is the first point in which the bride and groom are able set eyes on each other on their wedding day, the choice of music is bound to be a tearjerker no matter how slow or fast-paced it is!

Bride Entrance Songs

2018 has been a great year for romance, what with the eagerly anticipated Royal Wedding taking place at the beginning of the summer. Do you remember the music played during Harry and Meghan’s ceremony? The new princess walked down the aisle to ‘Eternal Source Of Light Divine’ by Handel, sung by soprano Elin Manahan. This piece of music is said to be very special to the couple, since it shares connotations with the history of the Royal family and because the late Princess Diana chose Handel to be played during her own nuptials.

Among other classical pieces of music performed during the stunning ceremony was ‘Fantasia on Greensleeves’ composed by Vaughan Williams.

Should you want to replicate this elegant style at your upcoming wedding, you could play music by pre-recorded ensembles through Parkland’s state of the art speakers or you could opt for a string quartet to play for you and your guests inside the mansion house. One of the most popular choices of music played by a string quartet is Pachelbel’s ‘Canon in D’, which has featured in many weddings held on the Quendon Hall estate!

If you like the idea of live music but don’t want to go with traditional composers, then you could always ask your band to perform some modern songs for you. For example, Bruno Mars’ ‘Marry You’ as well as his ‘Just The Way You Are’ chart hit both sound great played acoustically and are popular wedding songs. The cover of ‘Wherever You Will Go’, performed by Charlene Soraia, also makes for a beautiful musical accompaniment to you walking down the aisle, as does ‘Bella’s Lullaby’ from the film Twilight.

Not all brides choose to walk down the aisle to music played in a classical style, though; some timeless pop genre hits still hold a special place in people’s hearts. For instance, decades-old popular wedding songs of all time are Etta James’ ‘At Last’ and Eva Cassidy’s ‘Songbird’.

New releases

As for songs released this year, a popular choice for soon-to-be-wed couples might be Rita Ora and Liam Payne’s collaboration for the latest Fifty Shades Of Grey movie, ‘For You’, or everyone’s favourite songwriter Ed Sheeran’s soulfully sung ‘Perfect’, which topped the charts in the New Year.

Now that Autumn is upon us and the year is quickly drawing to a close, we wonder what other future 2018 releases may become enduring love songs played during ceremonies for years to come. If you can’t decide on a piece of music just yet, don’t worry, your perfect song may be in the process of being penned as you read this!

With that in mind, have you ever considered writing and recording your very own love song to surprise your other half with on your special day? Now that would certainly be a walk to remember!
